TERATE® Intermediates

Better flame retardant and dimensional stability

TERATE® Polyols is the registered trademark for the INVISTA brand of aromatic polyester polyols used in polyisocyanurate and polyurethane foam applications, as well as a variety of CASE (Cast, Adhesive, Sealant and Elastomer) applications.

TERATE® Polyols posses an inherent flammability advantage. When used in rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams, TERATE® polyols deliver excellent char formation, minimal foam shrinkage and high-weight retention. The unique aromatic structure of TERATE® polyols substantially reduces the need for expensive flame retardants in addition to affording the opportunity to lower overall chemical costs.

TERATE® polyols’ unique molecular structure provides industry-leading structural integrity and insulating properties.

  • Excellent dimensional stability
  • Lower/tighter board densities
  • Better compressive strength
  • Lower chemical usage
  • Lower index
  • Less shrinkage
  • Lower smoke generation

Market demands create challenges for foam formulators. INVISTA professionals work proactively with customers and co-suppliers to develop customized TERATE®-based formulations. TERATE® Polyols are reformulated for optimal performance with next generation blowing agents and are available in a wide range of optimized formulations to meet the most demanding requirements.

Typical end uses include:

  • Rigid polyurethane foam systems for appliance, bunstock, laminate/sheathing boardstock, spray and insulated panel applications
  • Polyurethane coatings: polymer binders and resin systems
